Description:

French Guiana is located in South America next to Brazil and Guyana.It is an overseas department of France and as such French is the official language. It has the highest standard of living in South America. In recent times its main claim to fame is that it is home to the launch pad for the European Space Agency and almost all of the satellites etc are launched from here. In the past it was home to Devil’s Island a notorious penal colony made famous by the book and 1970’s film Papillion. The colony housed its last prisoner as late as 1956.Being a relatively small and sparsely populated country it is a pleasant place to visit.
