Kiribati consists of three groups in the central Pacific: Kiribati, ( the Gilbert Islands ),the Line Islands and the Phoenix Islands. The 33 islands that make up the entire chain spread across almost 3.2 million square kilometres of the central Pacific and are primarily low-lying coral atolls with coastal lagoons. Banaba is the highest island in the group and rises to 80m .The soil is not very good and as there are no streams and or rivers throughout the chain ( except Banaba) water is provided by either storage tanks ,wells or imported. |
